Program Description:
2010 Registrations Forms Are Here!Founded in 2001, THRIVE is an 8 wk, summer youth enrichment program operated by the Winooski Department of Recreation and Community Wellness. Through our thematic learning curriculum, THRIVE provides school age children in Winooski the care and support they need to maintain academic achievement and succeed alongside their peers when school resumes in the fall.
The THRIVE program carefully balances choice and structure to create a fun yet challenging environment that sends kids back to school reinvigorated and prepared to learn. We hope you will join us this summer in our many learning adventures!
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Is this the same program that used to be located at Landry Park?
A: Yes. Thrive is the new name of the program that used to be held at Landry Park. The program has been relocated to the School and the O’Brien Community Center. It will be broken into two age groups this year: K-4th Grade and 5th-8th Grade.
Q: My child is currently enrolled in 4th Grade, which program should he/she register for?
A: A current 4th grader should enroll in the K-4th grade program.
Q: What if my family is unable to pay the full amount upfront?
A: If your family is unable to pay the full amount in 1 installment, you should submit a proposed payment plan along with your registration form. Having your child with us this summer is important to us, so we will work to create a plan that works for you and your family.
Q: Why is the 5th-8th grade program more expensive than the K-4th program?
A: The listed price for the 5th-8th grade program is higher than that for the K-4th grade program because $125/wk is the fee recommended by Child Care Financial Assistance. However, no family will pay out of pocket more than the amount listed for the K-4th grade program: $65/session for Winooski residents, $40/session for reduced lunch eligible students, and $25/session for free lunch eligible students. We recommend all families who have children who wish to enroll in the 5th-8th program to apply for Child Care Financial Assistance.
Q: Can I use Child Care Financial Assistance to pay for Thrive?
A: At this time, we are only able to accept payment in the form of Child Care Financial Assistance for our 5th-8th Grade program. We are working to register the K-4th program as a Child Care Financial Assistance Provider, but do not know if this process will be complete before camp begins June 28.
Q: What is Child Care Financial Assistance and how do I know if my family qualifies?
A: Child Care Financial Assistance is financial aid offered to parents through the State of Vermont to help families pay for child care. If your child is eligible for free or reduced lunch, it is probable that your family will meet the income guidelines to qualify for this program. Employment status, your child’s age, and other criteria may also affect your family’s eligibility, but you won’t know if you qualify until you apply.
Q: How do we apply for Child Care Financial Assistance?
A: There are two ways to apply for assistance:
- Apply online on the Bright Futures Information System: www.brightfutures.dcf.state.vt.us. Computers are available by appointment at the O’Brien Community Center for this purpose.
- Contact: Child Care Resource, 181 Commerce Street, Williston, VT 05495, 802-863-3367. You can get a paper copy of the application form as well as assistance.
Q: Do I have to sign my child up for all 4 sessions?
A: No. Sessions are 2 weeks long and permit parents the flexibility of signing their child up for all or only part of the summer, depending on their needs.
Q: The deadline on the registration form is April 30. Can I still register my child?
A: Yes. Registration forms are still being accepted. However, spots are limited and forms should be returned as soon as possible.
Q: I lost my registration form; where can I get a new one?
A: Registration forms are available at the O’Brien Community Center and in the following PDFs below:
K-4 Registration Form
5-8 Registration Form
Authorization for Release Form
Q: I need child care before 9am and after 3pm, what are my options?
A: We offer early drop-off at 7:45am and extended hours child care until 5:30pm for an additional fee. Further information regarding these programs will be sent along with confirmation materials following receipt of your registration form.
